Wal-Mart pledges more purchases from local farmers across the world

October 15th, 2010

Do you see this as a good or bad thing?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/14/AR2010101404700.html

I think that people will never stop shopping at Wal-Mart so at least they will have access to local food.  Hopefully the farmers will get a good price for what they are selling…that’s where the “rub” is.

Specialty Bakery Raisin Bread

October 5th, 2010

As I write this there is still the lingering smell of breakfast in the air.  Today we made french toast with a loaf of raisin bread from Specialty Bakery…amazing!

Here’s the super easy recipe:

6 slices of Specialty Bakery raisin bread

2 Brennan eggs

3 tbsp milk

1/2 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp cinnamon

Mix all the wet ingredients together.  Lay 1 slice of bread in the bowl and then flip.  Put this into a frying pan on medium-high.  Cook a few minutes each side.  Top with local maple syrup and enjoy!

Visit Specialty Bakery at Market Square (Ottawa & Walker) from Tuesday to Sunday, at the Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market on Saturdays (until October 30) or at their bakery:
