Local CSA, Locally Germinated, will be tilling under 900 ft of Kale, Chard and, Collards, as well as Hot Peppers next week.
Before this happens, guests are invited to pick green for the winter. These greens can be frozen as is and used all winter long.
The Hot Pepper plants can be pulled right up and hung as is to dry.
The farm will be open for this Friday and Saturday. It’s free!
No appointment necessary. Just come by 284 County Rd 34 (between Inman and Division) outside the town of Cottam.

Saturday, October 6 is the last day of the 2012 season for the Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market. Stop in to stock up on goodies for your Thanksgiving table including turkey alternatives like local beef and fresh fish. We have great fruits and vegetables for your side dishes and mouthwatering pies and baked goods.

St. Andrew’s Lakeshore Garden of Hope has harvested over 33,000 lbs of food so far this year. WOW!
This food goes to local food banks to ensure that those who need it most can have access to fresh produce. ST. ANDREW’S NEEDS YOUR HELP – They are in need of volunteers who have a few hours a week to help them harvest this much needed food. Epic Lavender Festival to be held Sunday

The first-ever lavender festival in Essex County will be held at Serenity Lavender Farm this weekend. On July 8, artists, musicians, writers and artisans will gather at the farm to celebrate a “fun-filled sensory experience to remember”, while guests experience the colours, the aromas and flavours of lavender.
Local musicians will provide entertainment while patrons are able to view the artists and artisan alley, and participate in art and crafting demostrations, harvest demonstrations, and lavender picking.

The Kent Federation of Agriculture (KFA) is again offering two scholarship opportunities. Realizing the importance of post secondary education in the agriculture business the KFA is pleased to offer two scholarship opportunities.
Each scholarship will be for $1,000 and each recipient must be from the family of an Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) member in Chatham-Kent – which equates to a KFA member. There are approximately 2,000 KFA members in Chatham-Kent. Students must be enrolled in an agriculture related program. Students may be entering their 1, 2, 3 or 4th year of any agriculture related program.
Application forms are available from the KFA office. Deadline for application form remittance is August 31, 2012. The KFA scholarship selection committee will evaluate all applications.
